The content of the programme is designed to:

✓  Improve confidence and resilience, both personally and professionally.

✓  Improve engagement and involvement for people who use support services and those connected with them.

✓  Improve leadership and responsiveness to rapid change during times of unprecedented workforce pressures and financial challenges.

✓ Improve practice including consideration of equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights.

✓  Provide reflection and connection back to regulation requirements, local systems and relationships.

Data analysis of transformational change from a sample of participants states ‘92% report the quality of leadership they are able to provide has increased’.

The programme provides a rare opportunity to reflect and learn in a group of leaders whose focus is working alongside people with learning disabilities, autism or other additional needs. The expertise and experience of participants helps shape the content of the programme, particularly in the facilitated action learning sets, where participants identify issues to explore and learn together.

My Home Life England (MHLE) have over 16 years experience of designing and delivering leadership support programmes reflecting the complex challenges faced by operational leaders within adult social care. Working with a team of experienced facilitators and coaches, MHLE have created a leadership support programme for ARC England that is practical, evidence-based and full of hints, tips and ideas to try out in the workplace.

Who is it for?
The programme is open to leaders who work alongside people with learning disabilities, autism or other additional needs – Registered Managers, deputies and practice development leads.

The Programme
The programme starts with three full days together as a group.

Day 1: Relationship with Self
Understanding and recognising complex leadership roles, building participants resilience, focusing on highs, low and learnings, wellbeing and some hints, tips and ideas to try out in the workplace. *Connecting emotionally and *celebrating what is working well recognising* courage and creativity. Drawing on our evidence informed frameworks as well as Christ Johnstone, Reed and others.

Day 2: Relationship with others and leading others
Reflecting deeply on the skills and positive practice required to support a positive culture in the care settings within which they work in building effective relationships within the care setting and the external world. Included in here are specific theories and frameworks about leading teams with a focus on appreciative and relational ways of working. We use work from Berne, Edmundson and our own frameworks *Becoming curious and *considering the perspective of others.

Day 3: Leading through Change
Building on skills, we help participants to examine what works well in implementing change, gaining ownership and involvement from stakeholders and delegating, adopting an appreciative inquiry approach. Drawing on Johnstone and Scholes, Herman and systems theory, creating community connections *collaborating and *compromise.

Following these 3 days, participants will move into smaller groups working together on content raised by participants with a focus on developing new strategies and confidence. These half day sessions will run for four months, blending some face-to-face sessions and some virtual, working with the same small group in a confidential setting.
