We are pleased to see Louise Casey highlighting the ongoing issues around how the NHS supports people with learning disabilities and autistic people.
Our members continue to share many stories where people have not been listened to, particularly when receiving care in hospital. Support within A&E can be particularly challenging due to the environment and there is a need for reasonable adjustments. Not every NHS trust has Liaison Nurses, who can provide much needed support when they are available.
Our recent Together4Change group focused on improving information about mental health medications, so people can be fully involved in decisions about their own care. People often have little or no insight into complex medicine they have been prescribed.
ARC England exists to listen to people with learning disabilities and autistic people, and the organisations working hard every day to support them.
