ARC England supports #BetterPay4SocialCare campaign by member Autism At Kingwood

#BetterPay4SocialCare logoARC England endorses this vital campaign begun by our member Autism at Kingwood and led by its CEO Kate Allen.

Social care pay is a central pillar of the reforms proposed by the recent Health Select Committee report. The recommendations would, if implemented, address the cost of care for older people either at the front end by paying for free personal care or by capping total payable amounts.

ARC England believes that in order for our members to continue placing people with learning disabilities and autism in the heart of their communities and at the centre of decision-making, they require a central government reward and recognition package to support this vital work.

That is why we join this call to the Government to ensure ALL social care workers are paid a minimum of the Real Living Wage of £9.30 per hour (£10.75 in London). Just only 20% of our workforce are paid the National Living Wage – and one in five care workers under the age of 25 are paid less than this – so the proportion of all colleagues paid on or above the Real Living Wage has decreased from 25% in September 2012 to just over 10% in March 2019.

#BetterPay4SocialCare: Sign up to this campaign and sign the petition to provide a voice to all those we employ across the sector.

Please help us share this message and work in partnership with each other, setting aside commercial interests for the benefit of the people we all support.
