Personal Relationships, Sexuality and People with Learning Disabilities is now delivered face-to-face for the Level One day, followed by the new option of Level Two studied over two half-days via Zoom. 

Personal Relationships, Sexuality and People with Learning Disabilities: Level One

This one-day ‘in person’ workshop is for people working in support services for adults with learning disabilities. Taking a rights-based approach, it will explore the area of sexuality and relationships, laying the ground for providing better support to individuals.

Learning Outcomes

Through a range of discussions, case studies and activities, learners will develop an understanding of:

  • The policy framework
  • How we learn about relationships
  • How to support individuals in their personal relationships
  • The effect that personal belief, culture and preferences have on personal relationships
  • The conflicts that may occur in providing support with personal relationships
  • Basic knowledge of human sexuality
  • Basic knowledge of legal aspects and their impact on people with learning disabilities
  • How attitudes and values affect our ability to support service users

Other requirements: students should bring a copy of their organisation’s policy on sexuality and personal relationships.

* In order to register for the Level Two workshop you must have completed Level One with ARC England or equivalent.

The Level Two workshop is delivered online as two half-day workshop. It is for people who have already completed a Level One workshop, and who wish to deepen their understanding of sexuality and relationships in the lives of people who use their services. This workshop will support improved service provision.

Learning Outcomes

Through expert input, a series of case studies, and professionals discussions, learners will develop an understanding of:

  • How to support individuals in their personal relationships
  • Online risks and safety (pornography, harmful behaviours)
  • Teaching strategies and the law
  • Consent and exploitation

The programme is sufficiently flexible to allow for learners to air and share their own concerns, issues and successes. If there are specific cases you wish to discuss that are not included in the outline content above please email the workshop facilitator: rod.landman@arcuk.org.uk.

Cost:

Level 1 – in-house one day face-to-face workshop (9.30am-4.30pm)

  • £750 (ARC Members) plus trainers expenses
  • £850 (Non-members) plus trainers expenses

 

Level 2 – in-house two half-day online workshops

  • £750 (ARC Members)
  • £850 (Non-members)

 

Level 2 open workshops:

  • £100 (ARC England members) per person
  • £130 (Non-members) per person
