“My deepest concern is for the future – what funding is there going to be?”

These are the words of Matthew Lester, campaigner with lived experience of learning disability and Co-Chair of ARC England’s Together4Change advocacy group.

Matthew has appeared alongside seven of his peers in a powerful film made by ITV News about what life is like for people with a learning disability.

The accompanying article states, “People with a learning disability are often ignored, dismissed, undervalued and underestimated.”

We know that people with a learning disability die around 20 years earlier than people without a learning disability.

So, what should the Government be doing to improve the lives of people with a learning disability?

Matthew’s message to the Care Minister Stephen Kinnock, who declined to take part in the ITV film, is that proper, sustainable funding is crucial to achieving real change.

Our members and the people who draw on their support will continue to campaign with us to make sure people with a learning disability can live the lives they choose with agency and control.
