Do your staff need training on how to support the administration of medication?

Supporting Medication in Social Care Settings

Our Supporting Medication materials were updated for 2020 to meet the knowledge learning outcomes of the City & Guilds unit 343 ‘Support the use of medication in adult care’ and unit 344 ‘Administer medication to individuals and monitor the effects’, from the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care, which we offer through our Qualification centre.

It is also in line with Skills for Care and Development’s and Skills for Health’s National Occupational Standards (NOS) SCDHSC3122 and SFHCHS3 for Medication Knowledge and Understanding.

These new materials also include some of the information from our previous pack ‘Handling medication in social care settings’. This previous package was developed from a Department of Health-funded project which had initially focused on producing guidelines for staff handling medication in the learning disability sector. It was supported by a wide range of people including; Skills for Care, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Pharmacists, CSCI (now the Care Quality Commission), service providers and people who access services. The result was a comprehensive package covering the knowledge needed to support individuals with their medication.

Supporting Medication Train the Trainer Workshops

We deliver our Supporting Medication materials on a one-day Train the Trainer course which is aimed at people who are already competent trainers.   The course takes your trainer through the ‘Supporting Medication’ course material, giving them additional information and advice about how to deliver the course.  On completion of the course the trainer will be equipped to deliver the ‘Supporting Medication’ course to your staff.  Each trainer receives a Trainer’s Manual which includes: Trainer’s Guidance, Timetable for the day, Slides and Handouts, which are also on a USB stick. They will also receive a sample copy of the Supporting Medication Workbook, copies of which can be purchased separately.

Train the Trainer workshop places cost:

  • ARC Members £210 | Non-members £265 (including Trainer's manual)

The ‘Supporting Medication’ course will cover all of the ‘knowledge’ needed to complete the City & Guilds units 343 and 344, as well as covering the knowledge aspects of the NOS SCDHSC3122 and SFHCHS3. To accompany this course there is a workbook ‘Supporting Medication in Social Care Settings workbook’ for each learner to complete, (you will need to order these in advance so you have them ready for the day of the course).

This course will help your learners to recognise and follow the correct ways of supporting individuals with their medication. They will be helped to see the values that are important when they offer support to those individuals using their service.

This will help them to understand that they should always work with these values at the forefront of their practice when dealing with medication issues.
