The DBS have updated the ID checking guidelines to help organisations validate the identity of a DBS applicant.
The key updates are as follows:
- Emphasis that organisations should consider the feasibility of digital ID checks of applicants
- Strengthening of Option 3 – emphasising that the in-person checking of documents should be done prior to the first day of work in all but exceptional circumstances
- Clarification of how to enter common name variations on the application form where those variations appear on identity documents
- The validity of Benefit Statements has been extended from 3 months to 12 months
