Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services (England)

We currently offer the following City & Guilds qualification:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services - Children and Young People's Management

The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services is a qualification designed to give learners the opportunity to build both managerial and care skills.

This qualifications guides and assesses development of knowledge, understanding and skills in leadership and management practice within health and social care and children and young people’s services and serves as the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements for the sector in England.

This qualification is for those working in Leadership roles in Health and Social Care or Children and Young People’s Services. It is designed for full or part time workers, paid and voluntary, permanent or temporary.

This qualification can help individuals to progress in Management roles in jobs as:

  • Registered Managers
  • Managers
  • Assistant/Deputy Managers
  • Senior Care Workers
  • Team Leaders

They would be employed in variety of settings, such as: Residential services for older people or people with disabilities, Day services, Domiciliary services, Respite services or Community based services.

Age Group – 18 or older

This is the qualification required for managers of adult residential and domiciliary services or children's homes.
The Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services can also help you work in roles such as:

  • Adult nurse
  • Care home manager
  • Care worker
  • Children's nurse
  • Health promotion / education specialist
  • Health service manager
  • Learning disability nurse
  • Mental health nurse
  • Residential warden
  • Social worker
  • Supervisor / team leader
  • Volunteer manager
  • Youth and community worker.

You will cover a number of areas, such as:

  • the assessment of individual needs
  • planning and review of care programmes
  • procurement and tendering
  • risk management
  • effective governance
  • domiciliary care management

To achieve the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (Children and Young People’s Management), learners must achieve a minimum of 90 credits.

Learners must achieve 30 credits from (501-505, 543), plus 38 credits from (506 - 508, 510 - 512);

plus a minimum of 22 credits from (519 -527, 530- 542, 544 - 570, 636 - 637, 640 - 642, 645 - 652,654 - 656, 660 - 661, 663 - 667, 681, 728, 729) from which a minimum of 12 credits must come from (519 – 527, 728, 729).

**Please note: a minimum of one credit required and a maximum of 6 credits allowed from (530 - 537, 660, 664 - 665). Note Unit 728 replaces unit 528 Unit 729 replaces unit 529

The 6 core mandatory units, common to all pathways, cover:

  • Use and develop systems that promote communication
  • Promote professional development
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Develop health and safety and risk management policies and procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Work in partnership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Undertake a research project within services for health and social care or children and young people

In addition, a range of mandatory units for the chosen pathway must be completed, as well as optional units, in order to achieve a further 60 credits.

All learners vary on the timescale to complete their qualification.
When you register, you will be given a specified target date in which to achieve your qualification, you can complete your qualification sooner than the target date if you are able to submit work regularly and at a good pace. Specific target dates can be discussed and agreed with your Assessor.

Total Qualification Time (TQT) is set at 90 hrs, this is based on the average amount of time taken to achieve this qualification, over an average completion period of 24 months.

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services - C&YP Management –  £3,596.

These prices are reduced significantly for learners and organisations with their own in-house assessor support.
