Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for the Children and Young People’s Workforce

(England)

We currently offer the following City & Guilds qualification:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for the Children and Young People’s Workforce – Early Years (Management)

This qualification enables learners working in Early years settings, to demonstrate and develop the knowledge and skills required for their role. It explores areas of children’s care, learning and development, leading teams, managing resources within an early years setting and will confer occupational competence to work in a management role.

This qualification consists of mandatory units, covering core knowledge and skills competencies plus a number of optional specialism units, which can be combined in flexible ways to reflect the real working context of each learner and their work setting.

This is a work-based qualification and you will be assessed whilst working with children, young people, their families and colleagues. You must be working in a real child care setting on a full time or part time basis and in paid or voluntary work.

Age Group – 18 or older

The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for the Children and Young People's Workforce (England) is the ideal qualification if you work as a senior practitioner, deputy manager or assistant manager within Early Years and Children and Young Peoples’ settings, including:

  • Integrated children’s centres
  • Approved home care
  • Out of school settings
  • Day nurseries or crèches
  • Family centres
  • Playgroups.

There is a diverse range of job roles for people with child care qualifications. These qualifications can help you find work as a:

  • Nursery nurse
  • Childminder
  • SureStart worker
  • Special Educational Needs assistant
  • Child care centre manager
  • Preschool advisor.

You will need to complete twelve mandatory units, (64 credits), these are:

  • Support children’s care, learning and development in the early years
  • Understand children and young person’s development
  • Lead practice that support positive outcomes for child and young person development
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the safeguarding of children and young people
  • Professional practice in children’s care, learning and development
  • Develop health and safety and risk management policies, procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Work in partnership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Use and develop systems that promote communication
  • Promote professional development
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Lead and manage a team within a health and social care or children and young people’s setting
  • Develop professional supervision practice in health and social care or children and young people’s work settings

Plus a minimum of 12 credits from Optional Group B and 14 credits from Optional Groups B & C.

All learners vary on the timescale to complete their qualification.
When you register, you will be given a specified target date in which to achieve your qualification, you can complete your qualification sooner than the target date if you are able to submit work regularly and at a good pace. Specific target dates can be discussed and agreed with your Assessor.

Total Qualification Time (TQT) is set at 577 hrs, this is based on the average amount of time taken to achieve this qualification, over an average completion period of 24 months.

These prices are reduced significantly for learners and organisations with their own in-house assessor support.
