Qualification Options

We currently offer the following City & Guilds End of Life qualifications:

  • Level 2 Award in Awareness of End of Life Care
  • Level 3 Award in Awareness of End of Life Care
  • Level 3 Certificate in Working in End of Life Care

 

The Level 2 Award is a knowledge-based qualification and ideal as an introduction to end of life care and will give those that have little or no knowledge, the opportunity to develop the basic principles and knowledge of how to work in this area. It also enables those that wish to move into this area of work to do so.

The Level 3 Award is also knowledge-based and ideal for those who want to develop their practice of working with people approaching the end of their lives. It can support your progress into a supervisory and/or managerial role.  It also enables you to build on your current skills and knowledge by gaining additional CPD qualifications.

The Level 3 Certificate is a competence-based qualification. It’s appropriate for you if you are a care worker or a health support worker, with responsibility in your workplace, in a supervisory and/or managerial capacity.  It requires assessment of practice within the work or voluntary setting and ensures learners can demonstrate and develop the skills and knowledge required to work in this area.  It can also enable you to build on your current skills and knowledge by gaining additional CPD qualifications.

Age Group – 16 or older

These qualifications are relevant to those working in health and social care settings, whose role includes working with individuals’ approaching the end of their lives. This may include health, residential, supported living, domiciliary care and palliative care settings. Learners taking these qualifications could be care, assistants, support workers or healthcare assistants. The qualifications enable learners to demonstrate and develop the skills and knowledge required in Healthcare and Social Care.  These qualifications cover various aspects of end of life care, such as, communication, assessment and care planning, managing discomfort and supporting individuals with loss, etc.

You will need to complete just one mandatory unit, this is:

  • Understand how to work in End of Life Care

This award is helpful as an introduction to the area and will give those that have little or no knowledge, a basic understanding of end of life care.

Full qualification guidance – L2 & L3 Awards & Certificate in End of Life Care v5.1 (Aug 17) – 3571

3 credits / 30 TQT

You will need to complete three mandatory units, these are:

  • Understand how to work in End of Life Care
  • Understand how to provide support when working in End of Life Care
  • Understand how to support individuals during last days of life

Full qualification guidance – L2 & L3 Awards & Certificate in End of Life Care v5.1 (Aug 17) – 3571

10 credits / 100 TQT

You will need to complete just five mandatory units, 17 credits, these are:

  • Understand how to provide support when working in End of Life Care
  • Managing symptoms in End of Life Care
  • Understand advance care planning
  • Supporting individuals with loss and grief before death
  • Support individuals with specific communication needs

Plus 9 credits (2 – 3 units) from a range of optional units

26 credits / 260 TQT

All learners vary on the timescale to complete their qualification.
When you register, you will be given a specified target date in which to achieve your qualification, you can complete your qualification sooner than the target date if you are able to submit work regularly and at a good pace. Specific target dates can be discussed and agreed with your Assessor.

Total Qualification Time (TQT) ranges from 30 – 260 hrs, depending on the qualification being undertaken, these are based on the average amount of time taken to achieve these qualifications, over an average completion period of 6 – 12 months.

  • Level 2 Award in Awareness of End of Life Care- £364.
  • Level 3 Award in Awareness of End of Life Care- £563.
  • Level 3 Certificate in Working in End of Life Care – £1,415.

These prices are reduced significantly for learners and organisations with their own in-house assessor support.
Registration only prices from:

  • Level 2 Award in Awareness of End of Life Care- £216.
  • Level 3 Award in Awareness of End of Life Care- £267.
  • Level 3 Certificate in Working in End of Life Care – £497.

WDF is potentially available for these qualifications on completion of final certificate as follows:

  • Level 2 Award in Awareness of End of Life Care- £60
  • Level 3 Award in Awareness of End of Life Care- £180
  • Level 3 Certificate in Working in End of Life Care – £420

To register for any of these qualifications, you need to complete the necessary registration forms. This will prompt support for you to consider all the aspects involved in undertaking the qualification and ensure the right one is selected for you. You will also need to seek permission from your organisation to collect evidence in the workplace.
